The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding gave Reps. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-Texas) and Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) the Black/Jewish Congressional Award for their work on civil rights issues. Jackson-Lee said at the ceremony that there have been “rocky times” in the relationship between the African American and Jewish communities, but pledged that the groups are now “bedrocked in unity.”
