The forthcoming trial in Manitoba, Canada, which is termed a second Berne trial, is commented upon by the Hebrew Journal of Toronto as follows:
At last the Nazi hooligans in Western Canada have been called to answer for their actions. Thanks to the Hyman bill, which was passed at the last session of the Manitoba legislature, it has become possible to hale the Hitler agents into court and force them to prove by facts that what they say is true.
The Nationalist, the newspaper which the Hitler agents publish in Western Canada, where the population is very mixed, has not stopped pouring filth and fire upon the Jews. This poisonous propaganda has found a fertile soil among the German and Ukrainian colonists, and there was no way of bringing these libel manufacturers into court. In their audacity they went so far as openly to accuse the Jews of ritual murder.
Now the Nationalist, that is, its publishers, have been called before the court and Whittaker (the publisher) will have to prove that what has been said in the newspaper about the Jews is true.
There is no doubt that this trial will be taken into the highest court of the land, and possibly to the Privy Council in England. The Hitler agents have enough money and support, but we are certain that the effort being put forth will be worthwhile, for after all, we live in the British Empire, and not in Hitler Germany. So far the English laws are still in effect.
