Thirty Jews and 50 Poles were hanged by the Germans in Poland last month in retaliation for an explosion that blasted a just completed military highway and killed 300 Nazis, information received today from underground sources reveals.
Shortly after a group of Jewish and Polish forced laborers had completed construction of the road, which was located near the city of Husiatyn, several explosions occurred, destroying about a quarter of the highway and killing the German troops. When examination of 2,000 road workers failed to uncover the persons responsible for the blast, the Gestapo seized 30 Jews and 50 Poles and hanged them. Their bodies were left on the gallows for ten days with signs stating: “This will happen to everyone of you daring to act against German might.” The population of the surrounding towns was driven to the scene of execution to see the bodies.
