Arrangements are being made for the withdrawal in the immediate future of one or two Indian infantry batalions now stationed in Palestine. The Indian Cavalry regiment is also being reduced in strength.
These moves are part of a general plan now being considered by the British government for a comprehensive paring down of the British forces in Palestine. A statement to this effect was made by Premier Bonar Law today in response to a proposal by a member of the House of Commons that the entire British garrison in Palestine be withdrawn in the interests of economy.
The suggestion that Britain evacuate its entire forces from Palestine is impractical, the Premier declared.
