Palestine’s Jewish community today welcomed Arturo Toscanini, who has come here to conduct for a second time a series of concerts of the Palestine Symphony Orchestra. The noted Italian conductor, accompanied by his wife, arrived at Haifa by airplane yesterday morning. After resting, they proceeded today to Tel Aviv, where they were visited almost immediately after their arrival by Dr. Chaim Weizmann and Mrs. Weizmann. On the way here they stopped at the American Jewish colony of Nathania and at Ramath Shavit, to receive the greetings of the settlers.
Bronislaw Huberman, violinist and founder of the orchestra, will arrive tomorrow at the Tel Aviv port — the first passenger to disembark at the all-Jewish city’s infant harbor. Final permission for passenger disembarkation at Tel Aviv has just been granted by the Palestine Government. The first Toscanini concert is to be held in Haifa April 13.
