President and Mrs. Truman today welcomed Mrs. Chaim Weizmann as a visitor to the White House and Mrs. Weizmann later told newsmen that “the President said he looked forward to coming to Israel and that he takes great interest in the young republic.”
Mrs. Weizmann was accompanied to the White House today by Ambassador Abba Eban. Mr. Eban said the President told Mrs. Weizmann that he considered Dr. Weizmann to have been one of the wisest men he ever met. The discussion at today’s meeting included the development of Israel and the mineral resources of the Negev.
Describing the meeting as “very friendly,” Mrs. Weizmann said the President “continued to have the same interest in Israel.” Dr. and Mrs. Weizmann were guests of the Trumans at Blair House for luncheon served in their honor in 1949.
