All but one of the countries from which United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold has had replies to an inquiry he made about their attitude toward proposed world calendar reform are either opposed to the idea or lukewarm, with heavy reservations. The only voice favoring the idea so far came from the principality of Monaco.
Both the United States and Britain oppose world calendar reform. Israel has sent a letter disagreeing very sharply with the idea. Several Latin American states favor discussing the idea, but only if the Vatican has a voice in any suggestions aimed at changing the Gregorian calendar, which is observed by Roman Catholics throughout the world.
