The United States action in Korea is of great significance for Israel because the United States and the United Nations have demonstrated that “we will not permit Russia and her satellites to overrun other countries,” Henry J. Morgenthau, general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, declared this week-end at ceremonies marking the 40th anniversary of the settlement of Degatia, in Eastern Galilee.
The U.J.A. leader, who is in Israel to confer with government leaders, declared that Israel is at the crossroads of the East and the West and “as you have come closer and closer to the United States it should be encouraging to a country of 1,000,000 population that the United States is prepared to fight and win against any aggression.” Present at the ceremonies were Israel’s Acting President, Joseph Sprinzak, Cabinet Ministers and leaders of various national institutions.
