Various Jewish organizations in the American council of Voluntary Agencies for Foreign Service will send to refugees in Palestine their share of some $921,000 worth of surplus United States war stocks which will be purchased by the council, the Office of the Foreign Liquidation Commissioner has announced.
The council, which represents 58 American-supported religious and service organizations – Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and non-sectarian – has already purchased 486,000 worth of vehicles, engineer and medical supplies, blankets, clothing and those from the huge surplus disposal center at Leghorn, Italy, to help meet pressing relief needs in the Mediterranean area. Supplies to go to Palestine will include 80,000 worth of tents and medicaments and a quantity of WAC and Army Nurse Corps’ uniforms.
