The United Nations Political Committee heard a plea by Dr. Maurice L, Perlzweig of the World Jewish Congress today in behalf of the Jewish community of Tripolitania.
“I speak for a group which has no defense but justice,” he declared, “and which places its faith in the United Nations.” The Committee, engaged in a consideration of the Italian colonies in Africa, was given a detailed account of the sufferings of this community of 30,000 in the last ten years.
Dr. Perlzwelg called upon the U.N. to furnish effective guarantees that human rights and fundamental freedoms will be respected, whatever the Committee’s final decision may be as to who should govern the territory.
