Samuel Untermyer, the well-known New York Jewish lawyer, figures as the first on the list of honorary citizens of the city of Tel Aviv, made public here today by the municipality. The list contains fifteen names, including Professor Albert Einstein, Lord Balfour, Baron Rothschild, Lord Reading and others.
The honorary citizenship bestowed by the Tel Aviv municipality upon Untermyer was given to him in 1922 for helping the city of Tel Aviv obtain its first municipal loan in the United States.
The fifteen honorary citizens of Tel Aviv were announced today in the following order: Samuel Untermyer, Achad Haam, Professor Albert Einstein, Lord Balfour, Baron Rothschild, Sir Herbert Samuel, Marquis Reading, M. M. Ussishkin, Chaim Nachman Bialik, Lord Allenby, Alexander Siskind Rabinovitch, Nahum Sokolow, Jonah Kremenetzky, Dr. Chaim Weizmann and Chief Rabbi Abraham Isaac HaCohen Kook.
