Addressing 2000 delegates attending the five-day biennial convention of the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism which began here today, Mrs. Henry N. Rapaport, outgoing president of the League, said in her keynote statement that “in these days of peril for Israel, in which her very survival is being tested, I call upon every friend of Israel, Jews and Christians, to grasp the significance of this moment and rise to the challenge” so that Israel’s enemies will not be given a chance to destroy her.
Terming the situation “most grave,” Mrs. Rapaport said that “we have in recent days been witnesses to the callousness and hostility of a world which has apparently forgotten the holocaust and remains indifferent to the plans of those who seek to destroy the Jewish State.” Those who voted in the UN to give “status and respectability to that murderous band which calls itself the Palestine Liberation Organization must themselves be considered as enemies of Israel and the Jewish people.” she declared.
Mrs. Rapaport also stated that the ties of the Conservative Movement to Israel were constantly being strengthened and asserted, “We share with them not only our material resources, our moral support and understanding, but our children and ourselves.”
