The European conference of the World Jewish Congress concluded here today following the adoption of a number of resolutions expressing concern over the re-arming of Germany as well as over the fact that no adequate measures have yet been taken by the West German Government to eradicate the doctrines of race hatred among the German people and to suppress propaganda favoring these doctrines.
Another resolution noted with regret that seven years after the collapse of the Nazi regime, a large proportion of property seized from Jews in Austria by the Nazis is still in the hands of “aryanizers” there. The resolution urges speedy enactment by the Austrian parliament of the pending indemnification laws, particularly those concerning the Jewish rehabilitation fund from heirless property.
The conference expressed regret over the fact that some of the democratic governments are not active in checking anti-Semitic propaganda conducted by neo-Fascist organizations. It also regretted the fact that certain European countries do not allow their Jewish citizens to emigrate to Israel. Anxiety was expressed over the arrests in Rumania of Jewish leaders without presenting any charges against them.
The conference pledged full support to the constituents of the World Jewish Congress in their activities on behalf of Israel. It also adopted a resolution recommending intensification of Jewish cultural activities in countries outside of Israel.
