When President Roosevelt ushered in his New Deal program and thus inspired many of the nation’s people to do bigger things, he did not know that he could inspire them to the tune of words and music, nor was he aware that his “New Deal” would be the inspiration for a musical composition depicting the progress of industrial recovery.
The composer of this original “march” is eighteen-year-old Bertha Constance Gordon, Washington pianist and composer and a senior at George Washington University, who has also won honors at the Washington Musical Institute.
The “NRA Anthem”, as it has been titled, was composed by Miss Gordon in about three days, and has brought forth letters of appreciation from President Roosevelt and the National Recovery Administrator, General Johnson, to whom it was referred by the President.
