A group of investors headed by former Air Force commander Gen. Ezer Weizman, plan to produce an Israeli version of the “Islander.” a small British commercial jet transport. The group plans to manufacture the plane at a plant at Carmiel which is presently doing contract work for Israel Aircraft Industries, Ltd., the country’s largest aviation firm. They are negotiating with the British Norman Corp. for a license agreement and technical advisors. The “Islander” is a twin-engined jet with a capacity of eight. The Israeli version would be an enlarged three-engine plane with a capacity of 18.
