That the function of the rabbis in Poland at marriage ceremonies be limited to officiating was the petition submitted to the Ministry of Justice by the Jewish Society for the Protection of Women.
The memorandum of the society demanded that the rabbis lose their right to issue final certificates of marriage, which they hold under the present system. The society alleged that due to the lack of system in issuing the certificates, some women have become the victims of White Slavers. Only civil marriages are to be recognized, the society urges.
