Some 1,000 delegates from all parts of the country met here today for the opening session of the 18th biennial national convention of Women’s American ORT. Guest speaker at the opening session was Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas.
In a message of greeting sent to the convention, President Lyadon B. Johnson lauded the organization “for the broad scope of your activities as reflected in the network of vocational schools you have established in 22 countries and on five continents.”
In a report to the convention, Mrs. Max M. Rosenberg, national president of the organization, said that membership in Women’s American ORT had grown to 66,000 with 490 chapters throughout the country, and that the organization’s annual financial productivity had increased by $330,000.
