At a conference of delegates from branches of the Workmen’s Circle held at its headquarters, it was unanimously decided to raise a minimum of $25,000 from the members of the Workmen’s Circle for the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society. A resolution calling upon each branch to raise its quota in the form of a voluntary per capital tax was unanimously adopted.
The conference was attended by 250 delegates representing 89 branches from New York and nearby cities. It was called for the purpose of finding ways and means to help the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society in its efforts to raise $150,000 to cover its deficit and approximately $400,000 for current expenses.
