A plea that the United Nations Human Rights Commission adopt an article declaring that “any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes an incitement to violence shall be prohibited by law” was made this week-end by Dr. G.M. Reigner, in behalf of the World Jewish Congress.
Citing the millions of Jewish victims of Nazism as a sacrifice to the lack of such preventative measures, Dr. Reigner urged the UN body not to avoid taking a positive stand on this issue, as so many other UN units have done. Dr. Reigner pointed to the Nazi publication “Der Stuermer” which helped incite the German people and eventually led to the virtual annihilation of German and European Jewry, and stressed that this is the type of propaganda on which he asks an international ban.
