Deputy Premier Yigael Yadin, leader of the Democratic Movement for Charge, said today that the DMC was not considering quitting Premier Menachem Begin’s Likud-led coalition government because the DMC ministers were “full partners in all matters of foreign affairs and security.”
Yadin and his three fellow DMC ministers appeared at a press conference today to defend their party’s role in the government against allegations that it had no in-put or influence in the Cabinet’s decision-making process. Last week, the DMC Council voted 42-10 to approve a statement saying the party would consider leaving the coalition unless the government adopted more flexible positions in peace talks.
Appearing at the press conference with Yadin were Justice Minister Shmuel Tamir, Transport Minister Meir Amit and Yisrael Katz, Minister of Labor and Social Betterment. Each discussed his ministry’s contributions and achievements. Yadin admitted, however, that his party’s image was declining.

Yadin explained that it was not simply a matter of improving the housing of deprived families but to raise their living standards by improving the social services available to them. Otherwise, he said, moving the families from one flat to another would simply be transferring the slums.
