Yasser Arafat diverted $591 million in Palestinian Authority tax revenue into bank accounts he personally controlled, a new report says. The report by the International Monetary Fund, detailed in an editorial in Monday’s New York Sun, showed that the P.A. president diverted the money between 1995 and 2000 to fund 69 business, which yielded a return of 22.4 percent.
