Nine Yiddish theatres of New York will open again next week, as a result of the settlement of the differences between the managers and their employes arrived at on Wednesday. The theatres had closed two weeks ago after the managers had declared that it is impossible for them to keep the theatres open at the present wage scale and had demanded a 25% reduction of wages as a condition for reopening their theatres.
According to the settlement the chorus union will accept a 10 per cent wage cut, the dressers, doormen and ushers will accept a 15 per cent cut and salaries of actors will be reduced from 10 to 25 per cent. The number of stage hands in the larger theatres will be reduced, while the musicians will also make some concessions.
