Yom Kippur passed without incident in Berlin as a result of the strict self-censorship regulations adopted by synagogues for yesterday’s services. Gestapo agents were assign to all places of worship, to take note of sermons delivered by spiritual heads of congregations.
Openings of anti-Semitic exhibitions were held, preceded by elaborate Storm Troop parades and propaganda meetings.
Doubled police guards were placed around all Berlin synagogues and Jewish community officials issued instructions to Jews on how to conduct themselves in order to avoid possible provocations. The instructions urged worshipers not to dress conspicuously, not to congregate in the streets after the services and not to bring children.
