An International Essay Contest on the relationship between Israel and American Jewry was announced today by the Education Department of the Zionist Organization of America. Prize awards totalling $2,000 in cash have been made available as a personal contribution by Mr. Benjamin G. Browdy, president of the organization.
Under the terms of the unsusual rules, the contest will be conducted simultaneously in the United States and in Israel. Duplicate winners will be chosen in the two countries and duplicate prizes will be awarded. The assigned topic, which is designed to strengthen the cultural ties between the two communities is as follows: “What Can Israel Offer American Jewry — What Can American Jewry Offer Israel?” Essays must be no more than 500 words in length and may be written in English, Hebrew or Yiddish. Closing date for the contest is May 11, 1951.
