Denial that expulsion of Jews from Bavaria have anything to do with their citizenship or faith is made by the German authorities in connection with the recent protest by the Polish Government against the deportations of Polish citizens of the Jewish faith.
According to the information given the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, 1373 Polish citizens are now registered in Hunich. One hundred and sixty nine additional arrivals were entered during September and October. The expulsions, it is said, involved only 45 families claiming Polish citizenship, but in no case wasthe citizenship or faith of the deportees the determining factor.
A strict investigation of the expulsions everywhere is claimed by the authorities to have resealed that the deportees had committed “serious breaches of the economic regulations” and that the grounds on which the undesirables are expelled are recognized in international law.
The authorities also claim that the consuls of the countries concerned as well as the Kunich Committee of East European Jews were given opportunities to discuss each case and that the deportation decree was withdrawn in several cases following such discussion.
