Five Provocators, formerly in the service of the Russian Czaristic “Ochrana” the political bureau, who were active in the Jewish labor movement at the same time delivering their comrades to the police, were arrested in Zhitomir by the “Cheka” of the Vohlynian District.
The arrested Provocators are Rappoport, Bugawsky, Weintraub, Sternberg and Ratmer. Records of the “Ochrana” show that during the period of 1900 to 1908, they delivered to the police a number of revolutionists and often betrayed the leaders of secret, revolutionary organizations of the Bund, Iskra and Anarchists. The record of Sternberg shows that he betrayed the entire membership of a Bund conference held at Smolensk.
Further arrests leading to the seizure of the entire band of Provocators are expected.
The Emergency Committee on Jewish Refugees announces a contribution of $2,500 from Nathan Straus. The Committee is endeavoring to raise a fund of $500,000 for the relief of 25,000 immigrant Jews stranded in various European seaports and Cuba.
