Suicide Epidemic Spreads Among Lithuanian Jews

A public protest meeting against the high taxation policy of the Lithuanian government was held here under the auspices of the Jewish Merchants’ Association. Speakers at the meeting emphasized that the taxation policy is ruining the trade of the country.

An epidemic of suicides among the Jewish youth in Lithuania has caused much concern.

During last week two suicides occurred in Kovno, one, a teacher. Lerner, from the township of Vendvigola, and the other, Solomon Gidinov, a tailor, who was seventy years old.
