The Archaeological Institute of the German Republic has appointed Dr. Welter as its accredited representative at the Antiquities Department of the Palestine government to protect the interests of German archaeology in Palestine.

Dr. Welter is now heading an expedition which is conducting excavations at Nablus.

Jews continued this year as the group sending the largest number of telegrams of congratulations, the Western Union Telegraph Company announced.

Some rabbis received as many as five hundred messages of greeting each on Rosh Rashanah, it was stated.

Especially printed and decorated telegraph blanks were used for the holiday greetings and the envelopes were delivered unsealed to conform with the orthodox rule against opening a sealed message on New Year’s Day.
