The use of the name, Jew or Hebrew, in connection with any political group, club or organization, was severely arraigned and condemned at the 18th annual convention of the New Jersey Federation of Y.M.H.A.’s and Y.W.H.A.’s, which was held in the Jersey City Community Certre Sunday night. Delegates from practically every community in New Jersey attended.
A conspicuous feature of the convention was the joint memorial service held for the late Louis Marshall and Felix Fuld. More than 800 attended the memorial service, which was addressed by Supreme Court Judge Samuel Kalisch of Newark, Rabbi Nathan Krass, Judge Irving Lehman, and Judge William Newcorn of Plainfield.
Philip H. Bruskin of New Brunswick was elected president. Other officers chosen were Philip Diamond of Paterson, first vice-president; Michael A. Stavitsky of Newark, second vice-president; Harry Goldowsky, Jersey City, third vice-president; Mrs. Charles Fishberg, Englewood, recording secretary; Mrs. Leo Jacobson, Perth Amboy financial secretary; J. Jerome Schneiderman, Bayonne, treasurer.
In his report to the delegates, E. J. Londow, field secretary for New Jersey of the Jewish Welfare Board, reported that there are now community centres functioning in a score of municipalities throughout the state.
