A demand for immediate payment of compensation to Jewish victims of anti-Semitic violence in Suceava and Balaceana was made today by the president of the Suceava community, Dr. M. Teich, who submitted to the Czernowitz authoritites a complete list of the losses sustained by the Jewish victims. Suceava Jews suffered losses totalling 208,000 Lei, while those of Balaceana sustained damages amounting to 2,784,000 Lei. He emphasized the importance of immediate payment because, he said, the Jewish homeless cannot continue to live on the sites of ruined houses when the rainy season begins. He also demanded the reestablishment of the gendarmes who, for a time, guarded Balaceana after the excesses. These gendarmes, who were recently removed, should be returned, Dr. Teich said, because agitators are still inciting the population against the Jews and it is feared that further excesses may occur after the harvest season.
