Rabbi Levinthal Marks 20th Year in Ministry

The twentieth anniversary of the ministry of Rabbi Israel Herbert Levinthal, spiritual leader of the Brooklyn Jewish Center, is being celebrated this week at the Center. Rabbi Levinthal marked the anniversary by preaching a special sermon at yesterday’s Sabbath services on the subject: “Ideals Versus Reality in the Ministry.”

Rabbi Levinthal, who is among the best-known Conservative rabbis in this country, graduated from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in 1910. He was recently honored by being elected president of the Rabbinical Assembly of America. Dr. Levinthal, who is the author of a book of sermons, “Steering or Drifting—Which?”, is also the president of the Brooklyn Jewish Ministers Association. He has been spiritual leader of the Brooklyn Jewish Center since 1919.
