In view of the bad winter crops the High Commissioner officially announced that he is cancelling 105,150 pounds of the total of 157,505 pounds due the government in tithes. This follows the precedent established in 1932 when he cancelled tithe debts amounting to 173,000 pounds. The High Commissioner is also considering the remission of tithes from the summer crops with the extending of loans to the needy cultivators for the purchase of seeds.
