S. Hurok Cancels Agreements with Pro-nazi Artists

Declaring that the American public must realize that any German artist who comes to this country is directly or indirectly affiliated with the Hitler government, and that they have pledged themselves to give the Hitler regime from 25 to 40 per cent of all they earn outside of Germany and that therefore any one who patronizes German attractions is directly supporting the Nazi terror, S. Hurok, noted Jewish impresario, announced Friday that he had cancelled the contracts of the German concert artists who had appeared in the United States under his supervision.

Mr. Hurok is head of the Hurok Musical Bureau, Inc., and is responsible for having presented in this country such distinguished performers as Anna Pavlova, Isadora Duncan, Feodor Chaliapin, Egon Petri, Mischa Elman, Luisa Tetrazzini the Habima Players and many other well known artists of the stage and concert world.


“I have cancelled all the contracts of the German artists who are supporting the Hitler regime,” said Mr. Hurok. “As long as the ‘gangster government’ in Berlin is in power, that is the only thing any self-respecting Jew can do. No matter what the sacrifice I am prepared to uphold the principles and ideals of Judaism against the inhuman brutes who now rule Germany. And I am ready and willing to do my share to make the boycott against Germany one hundred per cent effective.

“It is not generally known in the United States that the old established Jewish concert agencies in Germany have been seized by the Nazis, their owners kicked out, blacklisted and in many instances brutally beaten. Those that were fortunate enough escaped abroad and may be found scattered all over Europe helpless and penniless.
