Forty Jewish families have emigrated from the country in the course of the year, according to a report. They have left chiefly for Spain, Turkey and Palestine.

The Zionist Organization here is having difficulty handling the large number of applicants for permission to leave. The predominating number has decided to establish homes in Palestine.

The community of Serres was, previous to the World War, one of the wealthiest and most prosperous in the country. Arrival of immigrants in large numbers from Asia Minor and the world economic depression have resulted in an economic crisis here.
