General Jan Smuts, South African statesman and war hero, addressed a stirring appeal to the non-Jewish world in behalf of the Jews. He asked the world to remember that the Jews gave the Bible to the world.
“Let us not forget that this extraordinary little people, so highly gifted, has made a supreme contribution to the world’s welfare,” he declared. “The Bible is the greatest book in the world and the supreme gift to human culture, thought and religion. Nothing in literature can compare to it.”
