newspapers that the decree would be rescinded proved untrue. The government reiterated its intention of carrying out the full terms of the law.

At the same time the government broadened the scope of the recently introduced ghetto school law and began to segregate Jewish children in a number of schools, where it was found technically impossible to introduce all-Jewish schools. In these schools separate benches have been placed for Jewish children and for the children of converted Jews, effectively isolating them.

Austrian Jewish leaders denounced the attitude of the government and said that efforts to terrorize the Jewish community and throttle protests would be unavailing. Jewish leaders were warned Friday by the Reichspost, official government newspaper, to end their protests against the school law, charging that such protests had been instigated by Marxist anti – government groups.

Jewish circles pointed out that such an accusation is sheer nonsense and that Austrian Jews are not Marxists.
