The present situation of the Jew in Germany was graphically and authoritatively presented by the Rev. Henry S. Leiper, secretary of the American Christian Committee for German Refugees tonight at the opening of Delaware’s United Jewish Appeal drive. The meeting was non-sectarian in character, with David Snellenburg as chairman. The vice-chairmen are Bishop Philip Cook and the Most Rev. Edward J. Fitzmaurice, Rev. Ralph Minker, Rabbis Henry Tavel, Solomon Schulson. Warren K. Ayers is treasurer.
Dr. Leiper, who arrived from Germany Monday, is secretary of the American section of the Universal Christian Council of Life and Work.
During the Summer, Dr. Leiper made a careful survey of the current racial situation in Europe, and particularly in Germany. He spent some time in Europe with the Rev. S. Parkes Cadman, president of the organization of which Dr. Leiper is secretary.
The opening of the campaign in behalf of German refugees in Wilmington was reminiscent of the spirit that prevailed during and prior to war times, when Wilmington through inter-racial cooperation set the pace in raising funds for relief purposes.
