Youth to Conduct Temple Services

Services at Temple Ahavath Sholom, Avenue R and East Sixteenth street, Brooklyn, will be conducted by the youth division of the temple at 8:15 p. m. this Friday, it was announced yesterday.

Miss Lee Karish and Edwin Cohen will preach, Miss Karish choosing “Youth and Judaism” as the topic of her sermon and Mr. Cohen speaking on “Chanukah and the Spiritual Life.” The ritual will be read by Miss Anita Bennet and Burton Brager.

The officers of the youth division of the temple are: Max Harlem, president; Arnold Fine, vice-president; Miss Karish, secretary, and Morris Margolies, treasurer.

JDC ACCEPTS INVITATION

Pauline Baerwald, national chairman of the junior division of the Joint Distribution Committee, has accepted the invitation of the Prospect Unity Club of Yorkville to represent the JDC at the club’s Chanukah festival Sunday evening, it was announced yesterday by Herman Secunda, president of the club.

All monies raised at the festival will be donated to the JDC for its program in aid of German Jewry. The affair will be held at the True Sister Building, 150 West Eighty-fifth street. Dancing and professional entertainment are on the program.

STUDENT FORUM OPENS

The student forum of the Junior Society of Congregation Emanu-El will open its season this Sunday afternoon, with Miss Doris Humphrey, esthetic dancer, speaking on the modern dance. Her talk will be illustrated with dances by a group of ten persons. The event is scheduled for 3 p. m.

Jacob Valentine served in the Palmetto regiment of South Carolina in both the war of 1812 and in the Mexican War, in which he was wounded.
