Max Steinkopf is one of eight barristers-at-law appointed as King’s Counsel and entitled to wear the silk robes and insignia which go with this honor, according to the Manitoba government’s New Year’s list, announced by Attorney General William J. Major.
A member of the firm of Steinkopf and Lawrence here, Mr. Steinkopf is honorary consul for Czechoslovakia west of the Great Lakes. He now holds, or has held in the past, many other important posts.
Active in Jewish affairs, he is a former president of the Canadian Zionist Organization, a former president of Winnepeg Hebrew Free School and a former president of the Talmud Torah.
Born in Praha (then known as Prague) on March 2, 1881, Mr. Steinkopf came to Manitoba in 1889, was educated in schools here and at the University of Manitoba, and was admitted to the bar in 1905.
In 1930 he was decorated by the government of Czechoslovakia with the Order of the White Lion.
