Only one per cent of Brooklyn’s Jewish population is supporting the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities, and a broader basis of support will be sought this year through a new employe solicitation drive as part of the Federation’s Spring campaign for $543,500, it was announced yesterday by Walter N. Rothschild, chairman.

Major Benjamin H. Namm, president of Namm’s Department Store, has been appointed chairman of an industrial division to conduct the employe solicitation in factories, stores and offices in Manhattan as well as in Brooklyn.

Michael Cashmore, who served as president of the Melbourne Congregation, came to Australia in 1838.

Samuel Elias originated the uppercut in his bout with Caleb Baldwin, fought in England in 1804.
