“I cannot respect a person who besmirches his native land,” he stated at the hearing today, referring to Dr. Bergel.
Dr. Hauptmann was pugnacious in his attitude at today’s hearing.
“The stories about the Nazi atrocities are as true as the stories of the German atrocities in Belgium during the war,” he insisted. He denied that he dismissed Prof. Bergel from the staff for political reasons.
