Stressing the need of deepening Jewish life in America, Dr. Jose Kornfeld, former ambass-

ador to Persia, told 500 delegates to the ninth biennial convention of the National Council of Jewish Juniors that “we must saturate ourselves with the genius of Jewish thought and of Jewish literature for a Jewish attitude.”

Speaking at the banquet last night, Dr. Kornfeld said, “if there is a lukewarmness in America toward Jewish organized life, it is due to the fact that we do not understand it. If the content were understood, the intent would then be appreciated. In the midst of objects the objective is overlooked.”

Dr. Kornfeld said that Hitler is paying a great compliment to Jewish genius when he promoted to all the world that the remotest kinship to Judaism is not fitted to “barbaic German political life. Our greatest comfort is that we are persecuted for righteousness.”

He said in conclusion that the Jews will save themselves through Jewish culture and Hebrew letters.

Other speakers of the evening included Congresswoman Virginia Jenckes of Indiana, Mrs. Mark Lansburgh and Mrs. Flora Rothenberg. Mrs. Leonard Schloss was toastmistress.
