Systematic evictions of Jews from their homes in Vienna, Munich and Nuremberg and other provincial centers were reported today.
The Jewish housing situation is so acute that in Munich Jews with two-room apartments are accommodating 10 to 12 friends. Similar conditions prevail in Vienna’s Jewish quarter, where storm troopers were ousting Jews on a quarter of an hour’s notice, threatening them with imprisonment in concentration camps if they returned. All Jewish families have disappeared from Nuremberg and other communities where no roofs are available. Some were believed to be existing in neighboring woods, subsisting on food given by friends. Others were believed to have migrated to larger centers.
The awaited move against foreign and stateless Jews will apparently be taken tomorrow, when many have been notified to appear at district police headquarters. A plan to ship 600 German Jews to Australia on a single ship was abandoned because of protests from Australia.
