Rumanian Jews Seek Government Aid on Emigration As Cabinet Acts to Tighten Curbs

Prominent Jewish leaders decided at a meeting today to ascertain what aid the Rumanian Government was prepared to extend in order to facilitate organized Jewish emigration from Rumania. Participants at the conference included Aristide Blank, noted financier, Dr. Wilhelm Fildermann, president of the Union of Rumanian Jews, and Chief Rabbi Jakob Niemirower.

The meeting followed a session of the Rumanian cabinet at which decisions were taken to proceed energetically with elimination of minorities from the professions and to apply strictly the law for the protection of national labor. The session, under the chairmanship of king Carol, also discussed encouragement of mass emigration of Jews,

The Governor of Bukowina has issued a decree compelling Jewish merchants to keep their shops open on Saturdays and Jewish holidays. Legal proceedings have been instituted against several elderly Jews for violating a ban on speaking of Yiddish. The defendants are unable to speak any other language.
