France Pledges Syria to Germany Under Secret Agreement

Syria, the territory bordering on Palestine, which is still officially under French mandate, has been pledged to Germany by France under a secret agreement signed between Hitler and Darlan, according to information reaching diplomatic circles here today. The agreement, reported to have been signed by Darlen on behalf of the Petain Government, also pledges France to “united anti-Jewish action” with Germany. It also provides that commercial treaties concluded by France must be approved be approved by Germany.
