The role played by the Joint Distribution Committee as the major American agency for relief to distressed Jews overseas, was lauded here today by Ira A. Hirschmann, former overseas representative of the War Refugee Board, addressing a meeting in Hollywood of 400 representatives of Jewish committes in the Los Angeles area. Joseph C. Hyman, executive vice-chairman of the J. D. C., described to the gathering the stark tragedy faced by the Jews in Europe and spoke of the intensified needs of the Jews in liberated countries.
