The British Government’s failure to take any action against the boycott of Jewish-made goods from Palestine proclaimed by the Arab League was vigerously protested today in a resolution adopted at a country-wide conferece of representatives of Jewish chambers of commerce.

The meeting also demanded abolition of the trade restrictions imposed during the war, especially those prohibiting agreements with countries outside the sterling flec. It also protested the import preference given Transjordan, pointing out that, as a result, goods from there are emuggled into Palestine, creating a large black market.

The trade representative said that the boycott, which is slated to begin on Jan. 1, is “contrary to the United Nations principles and the agreements between Palestine and neighboring countries.” However, they said that they foresaw no danger to Jewish trade from the boycott, since “we well know how, in a dignified manner and in cooperation with Jewish institutions, to defend ourselves.”

Revision of Palestine’s taxation system, which it was charged was undermining the country’s economic structure, was also demanded. At the same time, the conference associated itself with the Jewish community’s protest against the Bevin statement.
