The Neu-Freimann DP camp near here was today formally dedicated and turned over to Jewish officials as a processing center for DP immigrants from various parts of Europe who are en route to Israel. The camp was named in honor of Col. David Marcus, American Jewish war hero who died near Jerusalem a year ago during the war.
The first 500 DP’s departed from the center for Israel this afternoon, shortly after the completion of the formal ceremonies. Israeli officials in Germany, International Refugee Organization officials and representatives of local Jewish organizations and Jewish voluntary relief groups attended the ceremonies. It is expected that the camp will process some 25,000 immigrants this year.
