Only 20 percent of Argentina’s Jews who contributed to the 1948 drive of the United Campaign for Israel and “Ayuda”–fundraising arm of the Joint Distribution Committee and other relief agencies operating abroad–have forwarded their gifts to the 1949 campaign, it was reported here by Dr. Mateo Goldstein, president of the Zionist Central Council.

Efforts to speed up the remittances of tardy contributors were discussed at a meeting of leaders of all Zionist groups in Argentina. It was pointed out that most of those who have not yet sent in their gifts to the current drive are small contributors.

The Argentine Senate today ratified the government’s decision to establish an Argentine legation in Israel with Dr. Pablo Manguel as Argentina’s Minister. The vote was unanimous.
