A community-wide meeting this week recommended to the board of directors of the Jewish Federation here that the sum of $40,000, previously earmarked for the Community Center Building Fund in the current United Jewish Appeal campaign, be reduced to $25,000.
The recommendation was described as a compromise move designed to meet the emergency needs for cash in Israel without interfering with construction of the new Center here. The move was taken by a 64-9 vote. The Sioux City community contributed a total of $337,500 to the United Jewish Appeal last year.
